Sealife beads at Beadworks

We love a trip to a craft shop, not only for the little trinkets and trimmings we inevitably end up taking home with us, but also because they're so darn photogenic. No wonder then, that so many of these places are on Instagram. We've spent some time digging around on the internet to find what we think are the best London craft shops to follow*. I Knit London

This independent yarn shop on Lower Marsh in Waterloo is a haven for those in search of knitting supplies, and runs classes and workshops too. Owner Gerard often posts images of projects he's currently working on.

Wild and Woolly

Wild and Woolly is a knitting shop on Lower Clapton Road in Hackney. Although it's only been open since last year, it's become quite a destination for knitters, selling needles of every size and being the sole London stockist for several types of yarn. The Instagram feed is a combination of pictures of the shop, events going on there, and products they have in stock.

The London Bead Co

Pom-poms, wool and shiny things... so many shiny things. The London Bead Co is based in Kentish Town, combining beads with thread. Worth mentioning is the shop's collection of Swarovski crystal beads. This account is a magpie's dream.

Beadworks UK

One of London's better-known bead shops, thanks to its central location is Beadworks, in Covent Garden. Boxes and boxes of beads (available to buy individually) greet shoppers, and we love the collages created using beads which appear on the Instagram account.

Cloth House

Soho's Cloth House stocks fabric from all over the world, working with local textile traders to import them. It also deals in denim, felt and technical fabrics. As you'd expect, the Instagram feed is largely photos of fabrics in various quantities; a scroll through it will make any haberdasher happy.

Macculloch & Wallis

After supplying the fashion trade with fabrics and trimmings in Mayfair since 1902, Macculloch & Wallis moved to new premises in Soho earlier this year.

Prick Your Finger

Prick Your Finger is a yarn store in Bethnal Green which also operates as a gallery and knitting school. There's a library of vintage patterns to rummage through too. Instagram posts from this account are sporadic, but often showcase artists currently exhibiting on the premises.

Village Haberdashery

The Village Haberdashery in West Hampstead covers everything from sewing and patchwork to knitting and crochet, also selling ribbons, trims and books, and running classes. The Instagram feed is a great showcase of products currently in stock.

Sew Over It London

Sew Over It consists of two branches, in Clapham and Islington. Courses and classes are at the forefront of what the shops offer, along with fabrics from all over the world, sourced by the owner.

Sharp Works

Herne Hill's Sharp Works sells yarns, and knitting and crochet patterns. Again, Instagram posts are intermittent but give an insight into life at the shop, from classes to current displays and projects.

Fringe @Studio108

Muswell Hill's Fringe doubles up as a haberdashery shop and an exhibition space for artists to display their work. Knitting, crocheting and sewing workshops are available for adults and children.

Joel & Son Fabrics

Royal Warrant holder Joel & Son Fabrics is suitably high-end, selling Liberty prints, among other couture fabrics, near Marylebone.
